Dates are a repeatable optional bonus event in 7th Dragon 2020, 7th Dragon 2020-II, and 7th Dragon III Code:VFD.
As it suggests, these dating events allows the player to have short social (and implied romantic) dialogue with certain members of the main cast, including current party members.
2020, 2020-II, Code:VFD[]
The Dating event option will only become available after a certain point in the game, and will require the player to use Dz to build the floor where the Date event will take place. The current Unit's party leader is the character that will pair up with one of the other characters and any combination of any gender and species character pairs can be made.
In all three games, the event location is at bar area (in 2020, the Sky Lounge Floor), and the two chosen character pair will sit together and exchange a line of dialogue, before fading to a dark background with the chosen NPC/Party character's voice expressing their reaction to the player and then showing a system narration box that the NPC/Party member had a fun time with the player character.
While the Dating event is mostly a bonus feature in 2020 and 2020-II with no gameplay effect, in Code:VFD, it has been upgraded to be able to affect gameplay.
In Code:VFD, the current party members will develop an growing affection to other party members (shown by a certain number of heart images, viewable when the player talks to the floor bartender) depending on how much the player has used those party members in battles
Different affection levels will change the voice responses of the party member characters during date sequences, and can be raised by mainly using them in battle while putting the desired characters in the same unit as the player character.
In Code:VFD, dating NPCs and eventually growing close enough to them will make them give the player special unique items (e.g. unique weapons) that cannot be obtained anywhere else in the game.

- For Party Characters, their voice reactions differ on which Character Voice is being used.
- In 2020, when Aitelle is selected as a dating partner, she says "残念、無理よ。" (Too bad, it's impossible.) in rejection to the player's possible interest of her, also referencing her romantic relationship with Takehaya.
- In 2020, Rin will react shyly by letting out a embarrassed squeal, implying the player's romantic advances on her behind the scenes.
